PrairieCat has adopted new resource sharing policies that go into effect as of February 1, 2012.  The document linked below summarizes those changes and hopefully answers all of the questions you have had about this new policy.

Revised RiverShare Migration Timeline and Transition Circulation Procedures Document

The final steps of the withdrawal of the 19 RiverShare libraries from PrairieCat will begin next Thursday, October 27, 2011.  As of that day, those libraries will cease using PrairieCat for their primary circulation, for adding items, bibliographic records, orders, holds, etc.  Linked to this message are a revised timeline of activities document as well as a document on transitional circulation procedures. Also linked is the list of the 19 RiverShare libraries pulling out of PrairieCat and their branches. Please share these documents with all staff, particularly circulation staff.  Here are a few important highlights from the timeline:

RiverShare Library Migration

This month the process is beginning for the 19 RiverShare libraries in western Illinois and eastern Iowa to pull out of PrairieCat.  Use the link below to obtain a list of the withdrawing libraries, their PrairieCat/delivery codes and their PrairieCat prefixes. We have also provided below a one page brief notice to PrairieCat patrons that can be affixed to workstations, which includes the list of withdrawing libraries. Also provided below is the most current timeline of the process for the RiverShare pullout which provides details of upcoming changes.

Goodbye PALS. Hello RAILS…

Thank you for your support and encouragement of PALS over the years. All of us at PALS are grateful for the opportunity to serve you, and we cherish all the great memories. On this last day of operations for PALS, you may be wondering: What happens tomorrow, when RAILS launches?

Throughout the past twelve months, as representatives from ALS, DLS, MLS, NSLS and PALS have worked on the merger, maintaining member services has been a top priority. So on RAILS’ first day of operations tomorrow, we will strive to provide the same level of service to which you are accustomed.

Pecatonica PL fully participating PrairieCat member

On Monday, June 6, the Pecatonica Public Library (PTLY-13) will officially go "live" in PrairieCat as a fully participating library. Staff at the library are continuing to update their collection in the database.

Pecatonica PL is the last of the libraries that received LSTA grants in 2008 to upgrade their PrairieCat membership from union listing to fully participating.

PrairieCat Upgrade to Symphony 3.4

PrairieCat will upgrade to Symphony 3.4 on May 21/22, 2011.  Ron Chesko, PALS Technology Services Manager, will be doing the upgrade overnight on Saturday.  Ron will begin the upgrade at 8 pm on Saturday and we fully expect the system to be back up by noon on Sunday when libraries open.

We will again be doing a staggered Workflows client update to prevent an overload on the server.   The older version of the client is compatible and can be used until it is your library's turn to update.  Your library will get an update prompt on the day we have assigned for you to update the client, but here is the schedule:

*         Tuesday, May 24th - libraries with delivery codes that begin with A B C
